>>>Just a phrase, something to lump all those countries between Mexico and South America mainland, but it's definitely not a continent. It's a region spanning the tips of the two Americas.

>>In school in Argentina long, long time ago we studied America as 3 continents, North America (Canada, US, Mexico), Central America (South of Mexico to Panama + the Caribbean Islands IIRC) and South America.

>Are you sure it was three continents? That doesn't even make sense - none were even separated by water on all sides until the panama canal was built.... :o) How old are you???? :o) (just kidding)

But, but, but... That was my point all along, the whole continent thing does not make any sense! We are going to get our faces blue discussing the issue without agreeing one bit :)

For example the argument of the continents surrounded by water does not hold any of it, as Europe would not be a continent, America would be only one; or how would you seriously consider the Caribbean islands or other islands on Oceania, even Greenland to be part of any continent; they are, like most islands I can think of, surrounded by water. In the end, is just convention that has little or no facts to support it. (Most of those claims can be seen here http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/contnent.htm) And the funny thing from that link is that they say "Many modern atlases and geography experts now consider the long-established continent of Australia to be better defined as Australia/Oceania," is funny because as old as I am, we never studied Australia as a continent, it was always Oceania)

By the way, I googled and found another person who claimed they were taught that Central America was a continent, so I will continue trusting my memory in this issue (not that I trust it too much for anything)

Wow, I can believe I wrote all that crap! Lets just say I do not care too much about these so called continents, after all, they've done nothing to me :)
