Hey Erik, Bill:

Don't fixate too much on the DBC issue, although that can be a problem if the DBC is in the app as VFP will attempt to compile it....the problem is also in building the APP. What does VFP do to build an APP? It erases the EXE. If someone else is using that EXE....no build possible.

The end rule is that you must be the only user if building an APP or EXE if the APP -or- EXE already exists and is in use.

>>>We are writing an application in VFP5 and we have the database and it's tables on a network drive. I have a couple of people who are testing the application for me with an executable file on their local drive and using the data on the network drive. When I (the only developer) try to BUILD APP app_name FROM app_name, I get a File Access Denied error. The status bar looks as if VFP is trying to open my Database.dbc exclusively. As soon as I have my testers quit there programs, I am then able to build my app.
>>>
>>>It is nessassary for us to share the data on the network if at all possible. But when I am trying to constantly build apps, it is driving us crazy. Anybody know about this or has a solution?

>>>Thanks in advance.

>>Yep.. we noticed that to... you must have exclusive access to the .DBC to build the ap.. very wierd.

>I get this too, but only every once in awhile. 90% of the time, I am able to compile with dozens of users in the included database. It should not be required to have exclusive access to the database to compile, but when this does happen, I just remove the database from the project, compile, and add it back in... the only reason it's in the project anyway is to give me quick access to edit it.
