Why would he need to give any explanation at all beyond his vote(s)? Abortion rights have been the law of this land for 40 years or more. The partial birth abortion "debate" was an emotionally charged wedge issue meant to open a wider attack on the law.

Conservatives really need to think about stare decisis -- let the decision stand. They used to be all for it. Now they are going after established legal precedents with every tooth, nail, and anvil they can find.
