Hi Mike,
>>Japans current debt level just does not really speak for snapped purse strings shut.

was not meant as "You don't know...." adressed at you or Jake -
I just like facts "clicking together" which is partly a way for my to memory to work...
My mind is also sometimes too stuffed with trivia I cannot all verify.

If you don't mind another "friendly shove" as you yourself write that AA is not always working for you -
try exhausting yourself physically. If you are/were a soccer referee, running is nothing strange to you,
you wrote about biking - while I don't want to imply that I had to face something similar to your problem,
but I do have a tendency to overdo on some positive reinforced stimuli - something not uncommon in our profession.
["if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing" is not always true or a good motto...]

Long distance running clears my mind at least a bit, and hitting a heavy bag or sparring forces me to focus
on something right in my face which is NOT a screen. Works best for me - give it a few tries when you are down.
Give it enough tries to get you hooked into another, better habit.

Rooting for you
