I replied to Nick by mistake.

Add McKernan --

He was my first sports hero. I was at the impressionable age of 10 or so and he was the star basketball player at Bangor High School. All state. I can still picture exactly a picture of him in the Bangor Daily News after his last game, when Bangor was routed by Cony of Augusta. The caption was "Jock's Farewell." (That was the name he was known by at the time). He was flying left across the lane and putting a shot up back to the right. I practiced that shot for about the next 10 years. He went to Dartmouth on an athletic scholarship, although in tennis oddly enough.
