>>EOD, unless Gerard feels the urge to elaborate on the clients expectations, we're both, from different standpoints, making assumptions that are likely incorrect......
Can't speak for you, but I don't think I'm assuming anything. ;-)
If Gerard is still reading: visit Google Apps Marketplace and see what's available. I found FM Touch that makes disconnected data pretty easy, along with a heap of customizable sales-type offerings- some online, some disconnected. Some are free for up to 2 users. At Apple store, again I found FM Touch meaning you could write a database app that works for either device, but also really cool stuff like Fax Print and Share, Kayak, Roambi and others that could be integrated to create a remarkable mobile sales offering. Just as an example, there are apps you could use to poll appointment changes and create an optimized travel itinerary including booking flights or hire cars, plotting driving routes, advising customers of the travel plans and/or telling them of delays. This can be done partly via Cloud so even if you're stuck on the tarmac or in a traffic jam with no connectivity, the customer will be advised.
I also found a Citrix desktop so you *can* run your Silverlight apps as well. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
