>>>>The jury is still out on Obama. But I will never back off about JFK. The thing that is already receding into the rocky mists of time is how inspirational he was. As just one example, the Peace Corps was established. Young college grads traveled to the poorest nations on earth to work for little or nothing, postponing their careers. Who on the recent landscape has had that kind of influence? Vowing to put a man on the moon is another example. They all think so small now, both parties.
>>>
>>>Ronald Reagan did more to inspire than JFK ever thought of doing. Reagan single handedly brought down the Berlin Wall, restored pride in America, restored pride in the Military and brought a national fever pitch back to this country. It was a great ride during the 80's to be in the military.

>>Yes, it sure was, and we sure paid for it.

>>Politically we are very far apart. I do give Reagan credit for inspiring people -- definitely give the man that -- but am not sure it was for good reasons. For one thing he began the era of the government aiding people who were already comfortable. Or already filthy rich, for that matter.
>>
>>Reagan definitely did not single handedly bring down the Berlin Wall or Russia. The USSR was already collapsing of its own weight. They stayed in an arms race with a country whose economy was much more robust than their own and it eventually sunk them. "You sank my battleship!" (Betcha have played that game a few times. Me, too).

>If anyone brought down the Berlin wall single handedly, I would say that it was Mikhail Gorbatsjov. Funny you mention Berlin since I am about to leave my office shortly for a four days visit to Berlin. But my laptop will go with me..!

I am envious. Have a great trip! If you had to list the 10 cities in the world with the most history, Berlin would surely be on it. Not all good history but undeniably history.
