You'll have to check openssl documentation (openssl can encrypt an arbitrary string stored in a file put the result in another file - particularly, take a look at the openssl enc command).

Nevertheless, and before going that way, I would suggest to look at the Crypto API Fox Foundation Class and see if it has everything you'll need to the certification of your software.
