>>There is no higher honor for our soldiers. And yes, normally they have to die. I salute this guy, as I salute all our troops.
>>
>>The only niggling unease is that we have been down this road before in recent years. I don't want to think cynically, but the voice is mutinous. Remember the female soldier who was supposedly rescued dramatically in the early days of the Iraq war, a story that turned out to be the work of the Pentagon PR department? Remember Pat Tillman? He was killed by our own troops and that was also spun as a heroic story of rich NFL player joins special forces to serve his country after 9/11 and dies heroically. Except that wasn't the way it happened, an inconvenient fact the Pentagon tried to bury as long as it could. Our own troops killed him at point blank range.
>>
>>Only Pollyanna would fail to miss the convenient coincidence of this new story with the 9/11 "anniversary." My feeling -- possibly wrong -- is we are being spun once again by military PR.
>>
>>Again, this is not about the soldier. There is no question what he did was heroic. But there have been other acts of heroism, including a guy from Southern California who jumped on a grenade to save a number of people and did die. His family was initially told he would receive the Medal of Honor posthumously, then it was rescinded.

>I think you should look up the definition of "point blank range" and explain how you came up with "Our own troops killed him at point blank range."

>As far as I'm concerned, Pat Tillman was a hero.

Absolutely. I am a lifelong sports fan and have exactly one piece of sports attire -- a Pat Tillman jersey. That was not my point at all. All I was saying was the way he died and the bogus (knowingly bogus) story pushed out by the Pentagon. Why his fellow troops killed him in a way that sounds unaccidental, I don't know.
