Prediction, sir?
I will be watching the Bears vs. Lions in half an hour. I foresee a gruesome season for the Bears. No offensive line (they offend me, lol), no secondary. If they lose to the lowly Lions at home it's definitely going to be ugly.
That stirred a flashback. The day Emily was born, 9/6/92, was another home game against the Lions. She was born at 3 in the afternoon. I was there all day for the event, as I believe every father should be. After the birth, after holding her for the first time, after Tricia had been tended to, including a munchies run by moi, I left the hospital for the day. A group of Bears fans who had been to the game shared the garage elevator with me. I asked who won. "You're kidding, right?" one of the guys said. I said no, I've been in the delivery room. The guys shook my hand and the women melted into puddles. Boy or girl? Girl.
She is 18 now and just took off for downtown Chicago to spend some of her summer earnings. My little girl is all grown up.
Mike C, Kevin G, and other new parents, I hope you are listening. It goes by in the blink of an eye. I can still feel myself in that elevator like it was earlier this morning.
