>>This basically had shut down a large part of the development tool community from looking at the iPhone/iPad as Apple wouldn't allow it.
Apple could get away with it as long as competitors were disorganized and miles behind. But Android is closing fast with experts predicting absolute iOS dominance may not last more than a year to 18 months. This is a perfect time for Apple to remove any justification for vendor preference for alternative OS. Now Adobe, Real and everybody else who has been complaining has no choice but to provide viable iOS versions ASAP, whereas Apple need only wait for the first sign of instability/insecurity so it can wring its hands and say "told you so."
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
