Thanks Mike

My sports interest is fairly shallow and already full so I will carry on ignoring American football :-)

A comedian over here does a funny blog abut the round ball game.

does this humour travel or do you have to know a bit about football to appreciate. (I refuse to call it soccer BTW. you lot can rename your game. I suggest handball with helmets LOL)

>Generally, yes. John has some Colorado connections and was a big John Elway fan (former Broncos quarterback) so I get that one. I don't know why Kevin cheers for teams from Kansas City and Oregon.

>I am a bit of an oddball in Chicago. I cheer for the Bears, like everyone else, but also cheer for their archrivals, the Green Bay Packers. It's an article of faith in both Chicago and Wisconsin that you cheer for one team and despise the other. I have liked the Packers since I was a kid, when I didn't live near either of them. Their long time QB, Brett Favre, who now plays for the Vikings (hiss), is probably my favorite football player ever, although lately he has tried my patience with the annual dance of the seven veils over whether he will retire or not. I also like it that the Packers play in a city of about 100,000, by far the smallest city in the NFL. People make pilgrimages to the little house where Vince Lombardi lived when he was the new Packers coach. The current owner lets visitors play touch football on the lawn. When the Packers play the entire state of Wisconsin stops what it was doing and watches the game.

>If you have any interest in American football and/or the Packers there is a book you might check out. It's called "Instant Replay" and was written by Jerry Kramer, an offensive lineman on the Packers' greatest teams. He made the key block on one of the most famous plays in NFL history. It's a season long diary and is well written. He was no football lunkhead.

>>>>>>>>That stirred a flashback. The day Emily was born, 9/6/92, was another home game against the Lions. She was born at 3 in the afternoon. I was there all day for the event, as I believe every father should be. After the birth, after holding her for the first time, after Tricia had been tended to, including a munchies run by moi, I left the hospital for the day. A group of Bears fans who had been to the game shared the garage elevator with me. I asked who won. "You're kidding, right?" one of the guys said. I said no, I've been in the delivery room. The guys shook my hand and the women melted into puddles. Boy or girl? Girl.
