Sometimes, but in places like where I am where folks come from all over the U.S., they cheer for their "home" team (the team from where they are originally from or grew up). In any neighborhood here you will see flags for Carolina, Redskins, Cowboys, etc.

So many folks move around the U.S. (for a job or school, etc) that they are more likely to cheer for their home team and only their local team if it is not playing their home team...
