>>The steal of the most recent draft was Ndamakong Suh, who the Lions took (stole) at #2. You can't really criticize a team for taking an elite QB at #1

>I can and do. Especially when QB is the biggest gamble in the draft. The Niners and Packers a couple of years ago are prime examples of why. I suspect the SF QB would be awful and the Packers QB would be good regardless of which one the Niners had picked first. It's almost impossible to develop into an acceptable professional QB on a team with an offensive line which is (to put it bluntly) offensive. Trade down for one or two potential starters and wait a year or two. There is still good QB talent available in the lower levels of the first round when you have the team to support him properly.

To your point - I give you ... Tim Couch ... and Tom Brady.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
