This is a touchy subject and one I've posted my views on many times. As everyone knows I support increased quotas by way of a guest worker program where every worker is vetted, pays taxes, receives benefits, and is sent back to their home county if they commit a felony crime. I also support an enforced and secure border to stop illegal entry mostly due to the criminals and other terrorists who use the same means to enter this country.

Having written that, any young person who serves in the military already can become a citizen so his statement there is false. Gaining citizenship by means of attending college is WRONG. Many folks from other countries come here for the sole purpose of going to college, not to become a citizen and it takes college slots away from U.S. citizens. We have too many kids in this country struggling to get into college now. Also, while not mentioned in the article it is in the bill and I strongly disagree with the in-state tuition rates for college for illegal immigrants. If a person from another country comes here illegally and can attend college or a university at 'in-state' tuition rates, then any citizen here in any state should be able to do the same in any state in this country.

Also, there is a "slant" to his comments or at least the media report (if it is accurate). According to the article:

he blamed Republicans for standing in the way of progress.

Giving everyone in the world unfettered citizenship is not progress. If you call it "progress" then it is progress in the wrong direction. Since the speech was at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Dinner, he implies all Republicans are against latinos, not just illegal immigrants when he stated:

"But don't forget who is standing with you, and who is standing against you.

I'm not a Republican, but if I was, I would speak out against his speech.

We need changes to the immigration policy in this country but we also already have more naturalized citizens every year than any other country in the world (link posted previously today).
