Microsoft would be smart to do that. I can also see them offering incentives to resellers. Things like, buy one get one free.

As for Palm, HP has already said they have big plans for WebOS.

Well, the beta sdk has been around for a while but the official sdk release date is 16 September - today- with Marketplace apps accepted starting in October. So we'll soon see. They're already doing one thing smart: the promise of Halo for WinPhone will make people sit up and take notice. ;-)
