Apparently it is proprietary memory and controller and requires an sd worm compatible camera:

The company says the drives can be read by any device that reads SD cards but can be written to only by devices with firmware specifically designed to recognize it, including certain cameras from Fujifilm, Nikon, and Pentax and an Olympus audio recorder. Other devices are said to be in the pipeline.

SanDisk is known for its NAND flash technology, but its sounds like SD WORM is more likely a more sophisticated version of a different type of non-volatile memory, the One-Time Programmable (OTP) memory used in applications such as game cartridges. SanDisk simply says SD WORM uses its proprietary memory and controller technology.
