>>Damn you for bringing up The Monkees ;-) I think every girl in my grade was in love with them. Of course, it was fourth grade....

>Well, at that age I was at least half-way in love with every girl, so such attitudes were only fair and balancing...

>>The first concert I went to was in junior high school, probably aged 14. Carole King, who was red hot on the charts after the release of "Tapestry" -- let's be honest, those were some great songs -- opening and then James Taylor, who was also in his heyday.

>Was about the same time for me: Tull touring with the Aqualung album spoiled me a lot as my first "large concert". Became a tradition to try to see them whenever they were near - must have seen them nearly twenty times till then.
>4 months later I crashed an openair concert of Uriah Heep in a small soccer stadium - was not the only one, the stadium built for about 15K held more than 20K. Getting something to drink was nearly impossible - being under age, people pressed together barring the way and creating even more heat...

>>Security then wasn't what it is now, at least not at a Carole King - James Taylor show. He had filled a Dixie cup with water from a drinking fountain.

>see above <g>. Couple of years later I was part time doorman/bouncer for some not too-well-thought-of clubs, but I had only 2 gigs as local security right near a normal stage - doubling up as roadie did not fit into my plans for those evenings<bg>.

Eh, we all go through some crazy days in those years. I don't completely trust anyone who didn't. It's the human condition.

My younger daughter, who has been my pride and joy since about the day she was born, has done a couple of things recently that genuinely shocked me. She is a private person so I will not blab them on the internet. But yes, I was surprised. And there have probably been other things I don't know about. What 18 year old tells their parents everything? And then I realized the things she did were not all that awful and no worse than things I did at that age. I told her I was disappointed and let it go at that. I think I know her pretty well and think this was the right approach. If you ever want uncertainty as a constant companion, just have a kid ;-(
