>>>Perhaps (but I rather doubt it) some of the parents now understand how I feel when I go to a public event (football game, graduation ceremony, etc) and hear the invocation followed by "We ask this in Christ's name."

>Whoa, Bill. Saying Rich has no soul because he is not Christian is way out of bounds. Have you forgotten that Jesus himself was Jewish? It doesn't even really matter what his religion was. Everyone deserves respect of their religious beliefs.

Bill can speak for himself, of course, but what I got from what he said was an agnostic or atheist would not think of *himself* as having a soul and therefore should not feel his soul threatened.

Christians believe everyone has a soul. ( as do Muslims )

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
