It has nothing to do with his insights. I can't take his voice. It may be petty, but I can watch other things. Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men come to mind.

Namely, an insider's knowledge of the game, a willingness to criticize without getting personal about it, and knowing when to be quiet and let the play by play guy carry the load. As opposed to, say, Tony Kornheiser, who seems to believe we watch the game to hear his pearls of wisdom.
