>>They also present the world visually on a screen 2 inches by 3 inches. That's no final solution, either.
3.6 inches is the latest standard with 5" being the largest telephony device I've heard of, but in any case people are talking about lasered projections or specialized sunglasses/viewers that cast an 18" HUD image as the next step. Meanwhile in Japan they already have stations in schools where the closest phone takes control of the keyboard and screen to deliver a traditional desktop experience. Apparently they're only really used for final drafting and printing.
IMHO the change to mobile devices is unstoppable unless we discover a health risk from radiation or some other catastrophe. Apart from anything else it avoids the confusion of desktop vs mobile development, because there's only one device to worry about. It also makes life easier for developers wanting to make rational decisions, since the market has picked two clear winners already.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
