This has nothing to do with Windows starting your service (I can't help you there) ... I'm just trying to help you get your errors logged to the EventLog, which you said you couldn't do. Running that code I posted allows you to add an Event Source so hopefully you'll be able to then log errors to the EventLog. If I've misunderstood that part of your problem, I apologize.
