Random responses to random musings....

Donovan McNabb is from around here and has always had a Chicago following. I'm not convinced.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by Jay Cutler so far this season. His first year as a Bear was nothing special and there have always been questions about his maturity and character. Maybe he's grown up. It happens. And it can't be easy throwing behind a leaky offensive line, running for your life all the time.

You probably heard the Redskins announced yesterday Vick is the #2 QB.

Maybe I have a misimpression of Tom Coughlin but he does not strike me as a coach players want to run through walls for. He always looks like he just ate 10 pickles in a row. It isn't a popularity contest, I realize that. Bill Belichick, Mr. $8 Hoodie, is no one's idea of a nice guy but everyone respects his for his success.

There is no finer sight in football than Jerry Jones on the sidelines at the end of a Cowboys loss, looking like he just passed an anvil. If you want a guy who epitomizes the unlikability of rich Texans it's between him and J.R. Ewing.

Definitely not counting the Vikings out. Sidney Rice was Brett's go-to guy, and he's gone for the year, but he will find someone else. I think the old gunslinger still has one more season in him. IMO the Packers are pretty good and the Bears' fast start has been an aberration. Playoff outlook -- likely despite the 0-2 startt.

The Lions are getting better. No team can stay that bad for that long. If you get a chance to watch them play watch this kid Suh. He is a monster.

I like the Saints and could not have been more delighted to see them win the Super Bowl. This season I'm not so sure. They lost a lot of guys to free agency, as most teams in all pro sports do in the age of salary caps. Halfway off the topic, I am not looking forward to the Blackhawks season. They won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 50 years and lost half their team in the off season. Kane and Toews are still here, and that's good, but they are not the team they were a year ago.

If you want to put a bet down on the Chiefs finishing 10-6, here I am. Not money, that's boring. How about a Chicago deep dish pizza against, hmmm, what?

>Do the Carolina Panthers get paid to play football? If so, why???
>
>Donovan McNabb went 28 for 38 for over four bills - his team had a 17 point lead - and lost. Why? Same reason I said last week - this team has no running game. 17 carries for 18 yards. You can't put the hammer down if you can't run the ball. This will mean the difference between Washington being an 11-5 contender and an 8-8 wanna-be.
>
>The NY Giants beat a bad team in week 1, and then looked very bad against a good team in week 2? Conclusion? The Giants are probably not much better than they were at the end of the season last year when they were leaking oil. And now Brandon Jacobs is asking for a trade. Tom Coughlin has a rough sea ahead of him.
>
>Philly was in a no-win situation on Sunday. Lose to Detroit, and they start 0-2. Beat Detroit, and they have a QB controversy. Andy Reid can talk all he wants, but the locker room quietly wants Vick. Actually, the offensive team in the locker room probably wants a better defense. Think they regret shipping Donovan off to Washington?
>
>Does Jerry Jones actually believe he can will a team to win by walking down to the sidelines? The man is a joke...
>
>Sure, the Vikings are in trouble - but no one is likely to run away with the NFC North. All Favre needs is one WR he can trust. Don't count out the Vikes just yet.
>
>The Bears and Packers are both 2-0. At some point they'll play and we'll find out who is better. Still doesn't mean either team is very strong. Ten bucks says the AFC East has a winning record against those two teams by season end.
>
>Two years ago, Detroit lost 16 games. This year they could lose 16 heartbreakers. Sucks to be a Lions fan.
>
>Sure, Atlanta can kick the snot out of Arizona. It's the close games that this soft team needs to win.
>
>Tampa is 2-0. They host the Steelers on Sunday. We'll see how long that winning streak lasts.
>
>The Saints almost lost tonight - but they are still the best team in the NFC. Easily.
>
>The entire NFC West sucks. The 49ers showed some promise, but they just make too many mistakes.
>
>Remember what I said last week - Miami can beat a contender by 3 points and a bad team by 5 points. Notice how that sentence didn't mention the word "lose". Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are quietly having good starts. However, they have an absolutely murderous schedule the next 2 months.
>
>I was surprised by the Jets game. Not that the Jets won, but at how anemic the Pats looked in the 2nd half. This was an ODD game.
>
>If Buffalo wins a game this season, it'll be a miracle. This team is, if anything, worse than the 2008 Lions.
>
>I hate the Steelers - but they did the unthinkable. They out-did the Titans in every aspect of the game, including game preparation. This was one franchise showing complete domination over another one, with good old fashioned football. And of course, no Titan loss is complete without Jeff Fischer doing something to show the world he doesn't trust Vince Young. Which is funny, because Vince Young saved Fischer's job last season.
>
>The Bengals / Ravens game was a bit of a surprise. Maybe the Bengals are tougher than people gave them credit for. But I still think the Ravens will be a stronger team at the end.
>
>The Texans won a big one. They won't sneak up on anyone anymore. And the Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson connection is lethal. But let's see how they react when the become the hunted.
>
>Beware of Indy - they looked AWFULLY good on Sunday night.
>
>The Jags record in west coast games is atrocious. Maybe they could relocate to the Midwest and split the difference.
>
>I am not a Denver fan, but my heart goes out to Kenny McKinley and his family - what a terrible, terrible story.
>
>Mark it down - KC will finish 10-6. This team has heart.
>
>The Raiders looked better on Sunday - I don't think we'll be seeing Jason Campbell as a starting QB anytime soon.
>
>San Diego can put up all the good numbers it wants during the regular season - an equal number of Phillip Rivers temper-tantrums will keep them from playing for all the marbles.
