A backup of the generated EXE? - The following is what we did at Bata/Bolivia.
You can keep several copies of the EXE, named MyApp0001.exe, MyApp0002.exe, etc., and the program that manages your build can get a list of available EXE files, and add the next version. For the user, you then provide a loader program, that automatically loads the latest version - but with an option to go to a previous version.
Now, not only can a user go back to a previous version, but the EXE can be updated while users are working.
