From the command line I'm able to do an SQL statement which will create a cursor with the same alias, in the new order, as the one I'm selecting from, but this returns an error from within the application. The error is that the alias is already in use. I'm thinking this is a much simpler than I'm making it out to be...any ideas?

Why not just index the cursor?
