>>>If this were a league that were sponsored by a church, such as I played in growing up, than nobody could say a thing about the prayer. But from my understanding in reading the article 1.) this is a municipal league, which to me says prayer has no place here, and Ms. Gunner, as well-intentioned as she clearly is, shouldn't be calling the children to pray, and 2.) Mr. Fromm tried to simply have his children stand on the sidelines, but now he feels his children have been ostracized and targeted because of this. He and his family are the people having their American rights violated on may levels. It amazes me how many "Christian Americans" want to push this country into a theocracy.

>But - what would the all the "Christians" do if it was an Islamic prayer ? You think they'd be running around getting 491 signatures on a petition if the prayer being said wasn't theirs? On the surface of it I don't think they care about being able to pray so much as being able to pray the way THEY want (and the hell with everyone else).

I'm going to disagree here. Having seen this for years in a few states it typically is a non-denominational prayer - more for team spirit and wishing for no one to get injured, etc. Most of the teams consist of players from different religions so it usausally doesn't contain any "Oh Lord" or "Heavenly Father" etc...

That doesn't make it ok, just saying what I've experienced and seen.
