I'm guessing (obviously I don't know one way or the other) that with all of the online forums out there now that it would be impossible to award MVP status to the top community .net advisors on each one. Perhaps MSFT now requires additional community activity in the form of presentations, articles, or books, etc... to put even the most knowledgeable ones ahead of the pack in terms of community support.
