Hi John,
Sorry I'm so slow in getting back to you. Too much going on around here lately!
I should have mentioned that we did try UNC about 15 months ago, during the beta cycle, but didn't get very far. For some reason, the IT department did not want to set up a domain so each of the servers required a separate login and password. Further, without mapped drives, the connections didn't persist from one SQL command to the next. Having to log in for each query and update was a huge performance hit. The IT manager finallygave in and set up a domain in March--just before he left the company. I haven't actually worked on the system since but it does sound like it might be worth trying UNC again.
There are 6 to 8 different paths that are important to the application and they are on at least 3 different servers, possibly 4. The path information is retrieved from a SQL table and assigned to application variables as the app initializes. Theoretically it shouldn't matter whether the actual path is a mapped drive or UNC. Are there any VFP commands that will behave differently with UNC--anything special to be aware of?
