>Do you mean the parents for having strange religious beliefs or the school for having their no piercing policy?

I'll go on record as saying these parents and the ACLU are a bunch of horse-asses in this case - they're sacrificing this kid's education.

I disagree. The question for them is whether or not it is a recognized religion. If so, and if the nose piercing is a standard practice of their religious beliefs, then it should be allowed. Especially since:

“We pretty much flat-out asked them, What guidelines are you following? What do you need to establish a sincere religious belief?” she said. “We were told that if we were Hindu, or she were Muslim, it would be different.”

I could understand a policy that prohibited burkhas because weapons could be hidden underneath, but a nose piercing does not constitute any safety hazard to any one else at the school. The question to me is only: is it a recognized religion and is it a standard practice of that religion and is she appropriately covered up (not topless or shoeless etc to conform to our laws)

She deserves the same rights under our constitution and bill of rights as every other citizen whether you think the nose piercing looks professional or will prevent her from getting employment or you consider the parents to be poor parents.
