We started at PNB and stuck with it up to Wachovia. Then they made us mad (don't remember how any more) and we left. A lot of our banking is now with small local institutions (and, in fact, Marshal's on the board of a newish bank, so we're doing a lot of our banking there, of course). I recall that many people left Wachovia in the 2004-2006 period. I don't remember specifics, but they had many customer service issues.
I've been fortunate - I've had a few minor issues but nothing significant.
A few years ago my wife and I looked at the pros-cons of going to a local bank, but there were just too many reasons to stay with Wachovia. I have a "one-size fits all" card with 100% protection if I lose it, I have a great overdraft (if I ever need it), and anytime I deposit a client check, all the funds (not just the first 2K, but all of it) is available the next business day.
