And by that I do not mean Walter Payton, although I admired him tremendously. Walter was more of a power runner with good enough speed. I meant Gale Sayers. For the brief time he played uninjured, and considering the shorter schedule and the crummy teams around him, he made his mark. He really did seem to have eyes in the back of his head. Like Hester, he gave you pure pleasure watching him run in the open.
