>And the biggest farce ever. :o) I mean really, a criminal who enslaved and killed the Taino on Hispaniola and didn't even know where he was nor land on North America?

>In school growing up in Wisconsin, I learned it was most likely Leif Ericsson (and not Columbus or Amerigo Vespucci ) or possibly even his father (Erik the Red - a known murderer banished and so he had to find a new place to be - although no records other than Greenland) or another Viking earlier than that. Most likely Leif Ericsson though.

>How about Viking Day or better yet Clovis day? Of course we now know that the clovis were not the oldest humans on North America but AFAIK, no one knows who was. Most lands were discovered/settled by migration anyway so how about migration day?

I'm not sure the Vikings deserve a holiday, either, what with all the raping and pillaging.

It has been said that Columbus was the greatest Democrat of them all. He left not knowing where he was going, arrived not knowing where he was, returned not knowing where he had been, and did it all on borrowed money ;-)
