I'm not up-to-date with the latest Logitech Bluetooth devices, but my general understanding is Logitech supplies a complete end-to-end software package/suite for all parts involved, and which is optimized for use with their hardware. If a Logitech tech support person tells you not to install that software, or the software is otherwise known to be buggy I suppose it should be avoided. But, it might be worth at least trying it - IME it uninstalls cleanly if it doesn't work and you need to remove it later.

My experience and opinion is that wireless devices (networking, keyboard, mouse) are inferior to their wired equivalents. If you want a reliable mouse for serious production work, get a wired unit.
