>>So what's on tv these days in Serbia? Do you have a tv turned on over there?

>TV? What TV?

>Exactly the same crap as in the US - Fox, history channel, national geographic something... didn't even bother to check whether our old TV would work, or how much would a new one cost. Actually, between cable IP and DSL I chose the latter, because cable was bundled with cable TV at about $11/month, which I just didn't feel like paying. Not a cent of our money goes to Fox or Disney (don't know if the latter has a channel here, but just the same). We have a consensus about this in the house. Nobody even mentions TV.

>>Actually, I have another question: how on earth did you get all of your household goods shipped back? Most folks when they move overseas do so at the bequest of their employer and the employer arranges and covers the shipping costs. Having moved around overseas many times, I can't imagine having to do that myself.

>We packed computers, cameras and few personal belongings, what could fit into four large bags, Lufthansa scaring the crap out of us with their luggage restrictions and fees.
>Books to be sent later, a selection of. The rest can be bought on the spot. The house was robbed a couple of times while we were away, but there wasn't much in it - we either gave away stuff, or moved some to my parents'. What we found was a funny selection - the old synthesizer was there, and the DC adapter cable, but adapter is gone. Most of the glassware is represented by 2 or 3 of each instead of standard six (not four!). Plates, forks, dishes - all there. Books - can't see any missing.

>We had to do a lot of cleaning, painting the rooms, several -icians went through the house (electrician, plumber, one to put a partition around the bathtub), had to buy stove, fridge, washer, microwave, toaster, bathroom scale, speakers, printer, bicycles, scanner... but no car. Taxi is dirt cheap here nowadays, and distances are small.

>(this goes straight to my blog)

Are you living in an urban area then ?

I like the idea of not running a car . I'd just like to occasionally have access to one for an awkward journey or to move something big.
