Can someone explain to me how Boise State is going to be #1 in the BCS standings despite being #5 in the human polls? Apparently that is them getting a big push from computer rankings due to strength of schedule. The only problem is they have beaten one good team, Virginia Tech, by 3; one decent team, Oregon State, by 13; and otherwise annihilated a bunch of patsies like Toledo, Wyoming, and San Jose State. They wouldn't make it through September undefeated in the SEC, Big 12, or Big 10.


Mike, I'm equally annoyed about this, but the fact is that Boise beat a good Oregon State team that, in turn, has played an extremely competitive schedule (the Beavers have played ranked opponents TCU, Arizona, and Boise State, and lost a thriller last night in Washington). The computers like Oregon State...and Boise's victory over Oregon State means something - possibly more than Oregon beating #9 Stanford 2 weeks ago.

But at this moment, the BCS doesn't mean much to me. In early December, Oregon is going to walk into Corvallis for the Civil War game and lay one on the Beavers, far worse than what Boise State did to them. I'll admit I'm biased, but AFAIAC, the Ducks are the #1 team in the country right now.
