>>>I agree, literally. I really would eat dirt first. Pickled herring is one of the very few foods that triggers my gagging reflex. It must be something about slimy foods, because cottage cheese is another one.

>>Slimy? Have you ever actually eaten it? Nothing slimy about it.

>Yes, I have had pickled herring, at least if we are talking about the same thing. In that slimy white sauce? I had a girlfriend whose father was an ex-Marine who loved pickled herring and would try to force it on you at every opportunity. Maybe that's why we broke up ;-)

>I like sashimi, can take sushi or leave it.

My God man, that's like saying I can take sex or leave it ! <bg>

If that's the case don't ever let YAG pick the restaurant. The man has a serious sushi habit. One of my more memorable evenings in the Fox world was a night in LA going out with YAG and Eldor Gemst ( how's that for a blast from the past - that's a story in itself)

We found a place about to close for the evening but convinced them it would be worth their while to stay open for one more table of diners. YAG ordered - more sushi than I thought we could all eat and then said to us "What are you guys going to have?" ( he was serious )

( oh, the white sauce is creamed herring - not as good and generally from a jar where the herring has been since the Nixon administration. If you find yourself in Las Vegas, try the Bellagio buffet and the varieties of herring there - might change your mind. Surprised you like sashimi if you are indifferent about sushi and find herring slimy.)

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
