Probably too late to help you Chuck, but for other folks seeking a solution, I had the exact same problem, and it turned out I had in playing around for the field I was implementing the incremental search for turned on the Autocomplete feature AND entered AutoCompleteSource and AutoCompleteTable (You find this on the Data tab of the properties of the Text field).

Once I set the AutoComplete to 0 and removed any reference to the field and table the problem went away.

We had developed a Quicken-like search before those features were added in VFP and why and when I attempted to use the native VFP features I don't remember, but all of a sudden I started getting the error and avoiding the AutoComplete feature all together seems to have solved the problem.
