within the United States, companies can be set up outside the U.S., so at the very least, it will take quite a while before such services stop. From the point of view of the copyright holders, the situation will be especially difficult if such a company decides to register in some small country - the same countries that are traditionally used as tax havens.
I don't see music sharing disappearing from the internet. Now that bandwidths are greater music videos, tv shows and movies are being shared too. I think for the music industry they simply need to find a new direction to make money....like including some trinket or collectible items with their CD's...and the active musicians need to concentrate are generating income from live performances more. The music labels are, for the most part, a bunch of scumbags anyway so I can't say I feel sorry for them.
