Yup. This works pretty nicely. I've got a few reports where the detail area could span anywhere near 1/2 page to 4~5 pages in length depending on which elements print (I've grouped the elements into separate grouping bands that effectively act as separate detail bands -- I conditionally print the elements along with "remove line if blank" so that items that aren't printed result in blank areas). One report has around 27 groups (I'm only using the footer part and leaving the header blank -- mainly because reshuffling things within the bands to accomodate additional bands becomes tedious task -- aside from that it gives me the freedom to shuffle the order of some of the bands if required by simply shuffling the grouping levels).
