>>>>"Don't ask, don't tell" has been struck down by U.S. courts. The military is dragging its feel in compliance.
>>>
>>>Hi Mike,
>>>
>>>Actually it was ONE federal judge that ruled against the policy. The military, in response to Obama's wishes was already conducting a study, the results of which are due soon. When the judge made her ruling, they, backed by the administration appealed, not the ruling, but the timing of the implementation. The judge refused to allow a delay in the implementation, an appeals court granted the stay.
>>>
>>>Meanwhile, as soon as the judge made her initial ruling, the military did NOT drag their feet, instead issued instructions to recruiters to adjust their policies accordingly.
>>>
>>>Glad to see you are back among the employed.
>>>

>>Me, too.
>>
>>I will not prolong the argument. It has been reported that the military has been dragging its feet, but I have no way to verify it. In fairness they dragged their feet about blacks as well and wound up being one of the first integrated institutions in the U.S.

>Could you please provide a link (any link) with valid reports of the military dragging its feet? The military immediately instructed recruiters to inform enlistees that there is no limitation for sexual preference but to be advised that if the court rules differently in the future, that could change the military's policies as well in order to stay in compliance.

I think something that is often missed is that the professional military is just that - professional. Like any organization, there is an organizational culture, and there is certainly a focus on being very wary of anything that might impede readiness or the discipline that accomplishes missions and keeps people alive, but when orders and policies are set at a higher level there is a great pride in being able to implement those orders successfully.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
