A broken hip seems to do them in. I have personally seen it several times. They're already infirm and now it's hard for them to get around at all. Add this to the psychological weight of most of the people who have been important to you being either dead or living independent lives, paying sporadic dutiful visits. Needing a nurse or aide to wipe you. It doesn't add up to a recipe for vibrant good thoughts.

Bleh, gloom and doom ;-) We're all going to die, probably badly. All the more reason to make the most of the good time we have.
