OK, but what could that be? AND -- if the code fails, because it is recursive (note that it doesn't even use TextMerge!), why when I resume execution does it not fail.

Curiously, though, the error seems to have gone away, afterI:
(1) Saved this code (and the rest of the code from today) into a PRG
(2) Re-booted
(3) Restored the backup from last night.
(4) Copied the code from the PRG.

So, the problem has vanished. Glad it's gone, but I wasted a lot of time before I resorted to the steps above.
