>>Ok so let's say you're not sure what your day will be made of. Perhaps development. You have to carry both your laptop and your iPad? Advantage for the Exo here.
>>
>>But as you mentioned the battery seems to be disadvantage on the Exo. But there are external batteries available and one in development that should add 7 hours to the Exo.
>>
>>As for your others points I really don't see what I wouldn't be able to do on the Exo.

>>
>>You'll certainly be able to "do" many things on the Exo....but how well? Any development work I'd want to do "on the road" would need to be on a machine that's faster than the Exo and has far more hardware resources. Like I mentioned before, after you put virus protection on it, I have to wonder what performance is going to be like. Then again, I have pretty hefty machine requirements, like 6-8 GB of memory, etc. Unless you've already pre-ordered it and have committed your $$$, you may want to really think about whether you'll be happy with the performance.
>>
>>I'm not trying to put a damper on your obvious excitement about the Exo. Everyone has different personal tastes, preferences, requirements. My two cents (and barely 2 cents, since I obviously haven't seen the Exo) is that I wonder if this is a product with an identity crisis that will try to be too many things in one package, but none of them outstanding. That's what I like about the iPad. It's identity is very clear. What it does, it does very well. As much as I love my Asus laptop and my HTC Evo phone, I'd have to say the iPad is the best consumer product I've ever put my hands on.
>>
>>Tonight I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. I took my iPad and showed him my entire album of pictures and videos of my daughter.

>Are there remote desktop apps for IPad?

I see the lack of a keyboard and mouse more annoying than anything for any ideas of "development" on a pad. As to processing etc, my first thought was just what you suggest. I have a 10" screen Dell XPS 1210 laptop 2gb duo core which is nice for portability but if I am at a client and want to tweak something I don't have my whole dev environment on the laptop - I just logmein to my desktop and move the finished product via my website FTP ( using free logmein without file transfer )

I suppose you could do that on a pad in a pinch but a netbook would probably be better for the sheer ergonomics of it.

I can see lots of fun stuff for a pad, but I don't think it replaces a laptop for any dev stuff.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
