>>>Whoever did the schedule - either the baseball guys or Fox - should really have looked at TV guide or something. It is my understanding tonight is game 5 of the World Series - and it is on opposite Monday Night Football - Colts and Texans.
>>>
>>>Somebody really should have looked at that and said - hey, how about Tuesday? Tuesday good for you ?

>>Interesting how perspective may vary depending on which sports you prefer. I don't know exactly when the World Series schedule is published, but assuming that it is set at the beginning of the season why can't football say
>>
>>"This is World Series week. Why don't we schedule all our games for Sunday and leave the rest of the week to baseball?"

>Because football won't lose viewers to baseball but baseball will to football. Sunday night and Monday night football have been part of the TV schedule for years. Sunday night game 4 of the WS didn't put a dent in football.

>Monday night football is ... well, Monday night football.

>Baseball, having games much more frequently, is accustomed to scheduling day and evening games on pretty much any day of the week, more like basketball. Fans watch the game they want to watch when it is on - unless of course something better is on.

>I don't have a problem with the conflict as I wouldn't watch the deciding game of the world series over pretty much any football game but if my job was to maximize advertizing dollars for Major League Baseball I certainly wouldn't schedule a game opposite football - or reruns of NCIS or Jersey Shore or ...

Actually isn't Sunday night football now what MNF used to be? It is unquestionably the featured game of the week now, or at least intended to be when the schedule is made. Tellingly, is is only Sunday night games that can be changed late in the season, not the Monday games. And the Sunday game is on a bigger network with A list announcers.

For some obscure reason I got chuckling in the car just the other day about a long ago moment from MNF in its early heyday -- Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, and Don Meredith. The Giants were playing the Cowboys and it was a sloppy game. After a while Cosell said in his, uh, unique style <g>, "Faultless Frank and Dandy Don, your respective teams are not distinguishing themselves tonight." Meredith: "At least we-all have respective teams, H'ard." LOL

Now I am missing him singing a few bars of Turn out the lights, the party's over....

Oh, one more Meredith thing, which fits right in with your view of baseball. If the baseball season was still going Howard would frequently read the scores during the football broadcast. Don would start humming the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." If it's possible to hum that and convey "Who cares?" that's how he did it.
