Pitching had a little bit to do with that. The Rangers had the best hitting team in baseball this year and they also "laid an egg" against the Giants.

The interesting thing about negotiations between Lee and his many suitors will be contract length. I would be leery of giving him a long term deal, as he will surely want. He's 32 years old and not many pitchers continue to excel much past that age. His sensational postseason pitching (other than the World Series opener this year) has obscured the fact that his regular season career has been far less sensational. He had two good years with the Indians, one very good, and that's been about it. IMO anyone who gives him a six year contract for $100 million, for instance, is going to look like an idiot two or three years from now.
