Not completely related to your problem, but something to keep in mind -- I've run across on occasion JPG files that will open in various applications but not in others. I've run across images that can be opened in MSPAINT, Windows Picture Viewer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, OpenOffice, and a few other programs (e.g. Inkscape, Gimp), but not in IE (any version), MS-Office nor MS Photo Editor.
