Something else to think about.... By giving a deposit - you will definitely have a room. I can't tell you the number of times I have seen folks at check-in complaining because a room was not available. When you give them consideration in advance, they have to provide you with a room.

Of course, if you don't like the policy, you can always wait until March or so. My guess is that the hotel will already be booked. Then, the 120 or so bucks you could have paid in Oct/Nov won't seem like that big of a deal...will it???

Also, find out what other hotels are near by.

Excercise your right to choose - assuming a choice is available.....
