IIRC, FoxPro is limited to older Excel file format that was limited to around 65535 rows and 65535 columns (or something to that effect -- basically because of 16-bit values used for row and column values).
Newer versions of Excel add another wrinkle -- one of the newer format is essentially a PKZIP file that bundles the various components.
