Sounds like what happened to my in-law. I got her's to work by deleting, not disabling, her network card. When it re-installed all was well. She had the same symptoms. Wireless worked but the wired pc just would not connect to the internet.

>>>I'm looking for a clue here.
>>>
>>>My ISP is Bell and I use a Bell DSL modem/router. My own pc (desktop) is hard wired to the modem through an on board ethernet adapter. I can also use my office pc (laptop) through the wireless connection.
>>>
>>>So, Thursday morning I was working with my PC and with the laptop and everything was good. Been working this way for a year. Eventually I turned them off and left them. Thursday evening I booted up my PC and, while the network connection to the modem seemed to be fine, I couldn't get an internet connection. I powered up my laptop and got a wireless connection and the internet connection was fine.
>>>
>>>I figured I the on board ethernet on my PC had gone south, so I disabled it and put in a new ethernet card and attached a new cable. Still no internet connection, but the network connection to the modem still looked good. Next I uninstalled the ethernet card and tried a wireless adapter. Signal 100% and good connection. No internet connection. Meanwhile the internet connection from the laptop is still fine.
>>>
>>>It doesn't appear that the modem is the problem since the laptop works great with it. But my own PC just can't get an internet connection nohow. I can't even ping the router.
>>>
>>>Nothing has changed in the firewall or anything else. The only thing my PC was doing between the time it was getting an internet connection and when it was not, was that it was turned off.
>>>
>>>Like I said, looking for a clue here. Any thoughts?
>>>
>>>Thanks
>>
>>Does the dsl modem/router have more than one CAT5 connection? It's possible the port went bad.
>
>It has 4, I tried them all. But that wouldn't answer why I can't get an internet connection wirelessly either when my work laptop can.
>
>>
>>Can you manage the router by going to 192.168.1.1 in internet explorer?
>
>Only from my work laptop connected wirelessly. I can't even ping the address from my PC when the connection is supposedly good.
>
>>
>>Were mac addresses entered into the router? Was a filter in place and you just forgot about it?
>
>Originally I had mac filtering on for security, but when my pc stopped being able to get an internet connection, I used the laptop to turn it off.
>
>>
>>Is there anything new in your hosts file in windows\system32\drivers\etc ? (if windows is your windows folder)
>
>Not to my knowledge. It was working, I shut it down and when I booted back up, it wasn't.
>
>>
>>When was the last time you shut down (completely unplugged) the router and waited 3 mins before plugging back in?
>
>I haven't. I've done it for 10 seconds, but not longer. I'm going to give it 10 minutes and see what happens.
>
>>
>>another thing - go to the properties of your local area connection on the pc and make sure the tcpip protocol is enabled. I have TCPIP4 and TCPIP6 and every now and then they get disabled for some reason....
>
>One of the first things I checked after looking for a firewall reason. it is enabled.
>
>Thanks for the ideas Tracy.
