From 1989 to 1993 I worked in Atlanta for the Department of Agriculture, and was involved in some data projects with the CDC. At the time, AIDS was a hot topic (ok, it's never "not" been hot, but was a very hot topic in those days). So I've always followed the research as well as some of the theories of how AIDS got introduced into the population. .

When I saw this story of the patient who was "cured" through the marrow transplant, obviously I thought that was great news. But until these findings are published and peer-reviewed, and until we see what happens with the patient long-term (since HIV can remain in the body at undetectable levels for years), this kind of breakthrough is still likely to be seen over the course of decades, not years. But still, hopefully some great news.
